Cougars Suffer Tough 4-2 Loss to Mount Vernon

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - On Saturday evening the University of Saint Francis Cougars (7-5-2; 0-4-1 Crossroads) played host to the Mount Vernon University Cougars (6-3-4; 1-1-3 Crossroads) at Bishop D'Arcy Stadium 

After entering a 1-1 tie with Spring Arbor on Wednesday the Cougars were hopeful to come into this contest with a win. However, the Cougars would fall to Mount Vernon suffering loss number six on the year.

During the first half, the Cougars started off strong pushing Mount Vernon down the field. Seven minutes into the contest Mount Vernon would go up 1-0 with the goal. Mount Vernon would score a second goal eighteen minutes into the contest to go up 2-0, but the Cougars would hold them scoreless to end the first half.

As the second half went underway Mount Vernon would open in the middle of the 60th minute with a goal to go 3-0. However, In the middle of the 70th minute Simon Hemler would score two goals to cut the lead to only 3-2 against Mount Vernon. 

The Cougars would try to use this momentum to rally back against Mount Vernon. But in the final minutes of the game Mount Vernon would kick one last goal resulting in 4-2 lead to take the victory at Bishop D'Arcy.  While the Cougars played better in the second half getting a spark on offense, they would come up just short of a comeback. 

The Cougars resume play on Saturday October 22nd as they will travel to Marion, Indiana to face the Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats (9-3-3; 3-2-1 Crossroads) beginning at 6:00 pm.
