Softball Falls to IWU in Crossroads League Tournament

UPLAND, Ind. - The No. 4-seeded University of Saint Francis (Ind.) softball team fell to No. 2 Indiana Wesleyan in the Crossroads League Softball Tournament elimination round on Friday, May 2, at Taylor University.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
IWU hit a home run over the left field fence to extend their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second inning.
Indiana Wesleyan then used a big fifth inning to pull ahead 7-0 before driving in their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.
IWU won Thursday afternoon's game 8-0 in six innings to advance to the Championship Game against the top-seeded Knights of Marian University.
Saint Francis was held to three hits and recorded one walk. Madyson Minnich went a perfect 2-2 at the plate with a double and a stolen base. Defensively, the Cougars turned three double plays against IWU.
Ellie Sauder took the loss in the circle as USF's starting pitcher.
Mady Tompkins and Alexa Huth combined for three strikeouts in 4.2 combined innings of relief.
Saint Francis softball concludes the tournament with a 29-21 overall record and a 20-16 mark in Crossroads League play.
