(RV) Taylor Trojans Prove too Strong as Cougars Fall 4-0
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – On Saturday evening the University of Saint Francis Cougars (4-10-4; 0-7-2 Crossroads) traveled to Upland, Indiana to take on the (RV) Taylor University Trojans (12-3-2; 4-3-2 Crossroads) in their final game of the 2022 season and fell 4-0 as the Trojans offense proved too formidable.
As the game got started, the Trojans set the tone right off the bat. They managed to score the game's first goal in just the second minute and kept applying the pressure on the Cougars. Freshman goalkeeper Kayden Tassler stepped up and made four great saves over the next 15 minutes to keep her team in the game.
The next 20 minutes progressed without any other scoring, but the Trojans were keeping the Cougars busy on defense creating numerous scoring opportunities.
Then in the 37th minute, Taylor's persistence paid off when they doubled the lead to go ahead 2-0. No more scoring was done in the first half as the Cougars went to halftime trailing 2-0.
During the first half, Tassler stepped in to make nine saves against 11 shots on goal.
Heading into the second half, the script remained very similar to the first. Less than two minutes into the frame the Trojans found the net again and extended their lead to 3-0, and the Cougars were in dire straits.
The Cougars and Trojans then exchanged a couple of scoring opportunities, and then in the 77th minute Taylor all but put the game away with a fourth goal and the Cougars were never able to catch back up as they dropped the season finale.
Throughout the game Tassler made 15 saves against 19 shots on net by Taylor while the Cougars managed just one shot throughout the game.
