Cougars Fall Short at Taylor

UPLAND, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) volleyball team traveled to Taylor University for a mid-week Crossroads League matchup on Wednesday, September 25.

The Trojans topped the Cougars 3-1, with set scores of 17-25, 21-25, 25-17, 16-25.

With the score tied at 8-8 in the first set, the two teams battled back and forth, but the Trojans would hang on to win set one. The second set followed suit, but Saint Francis's rally fell just short as Taylor took a 2-0 lead. The Cougars were able to jump out to an early lead and extend it by as many as 10 points as USF topped Taylor in the third set to extend Wednesday night's game. Taylor would hang on to win the fourth set and take the match.

As a team, the Cougars had 34 kills and 10 block assists. Paige Fortkamp led the USF offensive attack with 15 kills. The senior outside hitter also added three service aces and two block assists. Teigen Fortkamp finished the night with 26 assists and four kills. Hannah Sweeney led the team in digs with 15 on the night, while Kate McMullen tallied four block assists.

Up next, USF volleyball (7-12, 0-7) will host Bethel University on Saturday, September 28 during Homecoming Weekend on the campus of Saint Francis.
