Football Falls to Taylor on the Road
UPLAND, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) football team fell on the road to Taylor University by a final score of 58-36 on Saturday, October 5.
The Trojans were able to take an early 7-0 lead at the 13:27 mark in the opening quarter of Saturday's game. The Cougars answered three minutes later with a 35-yard touchdown pass from Joshua Kulka to McCall Ray to tie the score 7-7. Taylor put two more touchdowns on the board in the first quarter for a 21-7 advantage. After a safety for the Trojans, USF cut Taylor's lead to a touchdown thanks to a 31-yard reception from Adjaye Dandridge. It took Saint Francis only three plays to score another touchdown, this one a 6-yard pass from Kulka to Dandridge to cut Taylor's lead to 23-21 at halftime.
After Taylor scored two more times to take a 37-21 lead with less than 10 minutes to play in the third quarter, Kulka connected with Crosley MacEachen for a USF touchdown with 4:57 on the clock. The Cougars would score again with just seven seconds left to play in the game, this time a three-yard pass from Kulka to Drew Wheat. Taylor would go on to win Saturday's matchup by a final score of 58-36.
Kulka finished the afternoon with 238 passing yards for five touchdowns. David Smith led the Cougars on the ground with 69 rushing yards on 13 carries. Ray had three catches for 78 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Dandridge added 47 reception yards for two touchdowns. Freshman Austin Deleon was a perfect 4/4 on point-after attempts on Saturday.
Defensively, Jaydin Evans led the Cougars with 10 total tackles, including four solo tackles and a tackle for a loss of yards. Aidan Ewers collected eight total tackles, while Wyatt Penney had four tackles and a fumble recovery. Tamarris Springfield had an interception and a pass breakup, and Connor Price added a quarterback hurry on Saturday.
Up next, USF football (3-2) will return to Fort Wayne for a matchup against Lawerence Tech on Saturday, October 12.
