Wolverines Tame the Lady Cougs at Home

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The University of Saint Francis Women's Soccer Team played host to the UM-Dearborn Wolverines & fell short, dropping the match 1-0.

The deciding factor of the match came in the 63rd-minute with a missed tackle in the midfield where the Wolverines capitalized and chipped Morgan from 25-yards out. Nadia Saab struck through the ball for UM-Dearborn from the layoff from Talia List. The Lady Cougars did well with hold-up play coming from Carlee Biddle & Ava Slater with a shift in formation, forcing two up top & four into the midfield for the Cougs. Haley Brenner moved into a centerback position, replacing Jaylin Carroll, & giving Faith Lewis the call-up to start out wide for USF.

The ultimate demise of the Lady Cougars didn't come from their depth or versatility of players, it came down to the 50-50 individual tackles not won in the midfield. Amber Morgan started her 8th match for the Cougars and faced 7 shots on frame, making 6 saves. The Wolverines outshot the Cougars 11:10, but USF had more goal-worthy opportunities, just struggled to find the back of the net. Ava Slater & Carlee Biddle combined for 8 shots while Faith Lewis & Courtney Tobin sprinkled in 2 shots. Freshman, Evelyn Harkenrider found herself in many 50-50 battles on the flank, but did well to force the Wolverines negative & make play more predictable for USF to anticipate. Holly Thomas also came in off the bench for 32 physical minutes of play, giving the Cougars an edge to fight back. Lastly, Abby Wozny distributed well from the back, recording 70-minutes of play.

The Lady Cougars are now 2-4-2 overall. USF will play host to the Manchester University Spartans Tuesday, September 19th for their last match before Crossroads League play. Manchester enters into the match 0-6 overall & have yet to score a goal this season. Kick-off is set for 7pm at Bishop John M. D'Arcy Stadium under the lights.
