Bio

Mike McCaffrey was elevated to Athletic Director at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Ind., in January 2012.  Since becoming Athletic Director at USF, he has overseen over $4.5 million dollars in fundraising and been a part of three national championships, including back-to-back football championships in 2016 and 2017. 

During the 2017-18 year, both the men’s basketball and football teams played in the NAIA National Championship games. The USF Men’s Basketball Team has appeared in four national championship games since winning their first national championship in 2010 and the women’s team finished a perfect 38-0 and national champions in 2014.

The USF student-athletes have earned over a 3.1 GPA in every semester since becoming Athletic Director at USF.  The department has earned over 500 academic all-conference recipients since 2011 and had 24 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. 

The Busse-Fabini Cougar Classic scholarship fundraiser was started under Mike’s guidance in 2011 and is entering its eighth year in 2019.  The two-day event has generated over $400,000 in funds for USF student-athlete schoalrships.

The USF Athletic Department has implemented many new initiatives under his leadership, including Student-Athlete Study tables, Student-Athlete Leadership Team and the annual CASPY Awards for USF Student-Athletes. 

Mike currently serves as the NAIA Athletic Director’s Association President for 2018-19.  He has been an active board member of the NAIA-ADA Board of Directors since it began in 2012, first representing the Crossroads League, before being elected to the executive committee in 2015.

Mike was named to the position of Interim Athletic Director in May 2011 after the retirement of USF’s previous Athletic Director Mark Pope.

In June 2009, Pope promoted McCaffrey to be his assistant athletic director after serving the previous year and a half as Director of Athletic Marketing and Promotions. 

In 2011, Mike was honored by Fort Wayne Business Weekly as one of the area’s top “40-Under-40” and is also a 2011 graduate of Leadership Fort Wayne. Mike has completed the USF Leadership Certification program, has served as Chair of the USF Staff Senate and as an adjunct professor in the Keith Busse School of Business and Entrepreneurial Leadership.

After working in professional sports for nearly a decade in the Arena Football League, American Hockey League and minor league baseball, Mike came to Fort Wayne to become General Manager of the Fort Wayne Fusion (arenafootball2), which played its home games at the Allen County Memorial Coliseum.

At the time, Mike became one of the youngest General Managers in all of professional sports at age 29. Since arriving in Fort Wayne, Mike has been appointed as a board member of the Fort Wayne Sports Corporation and was a key member in organizing the “Fort Wayne Salutes Rod Woodson” tribute event during the 2009 Three Rivers Festival. 

A native of Albany, N.Y., McCaffrey is a 2000 graduate of Old Dominion University in Virginia, where he majored in sports management. 

Mike lives in Fort Wayne with his wife, Angie, and two boys, Joel and Baylen.
