USF Cruises by the Crusaders in Non-Conference Match-Up

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's basketball team played host to the Great Lakes Christian College Crusaders Wednesday evening. The Cougars cruised past the Crusaders who were 2-7 overall entering into the match-up. USF is now 8-2 overall and 1-1 in Crossroads League Play.

USF got off to a slow start, but were leading 5-0 within the first 3-minutes of play. After a rest with subs, USF was able to find their transitional fast break play, and ran the floor with the Crusaders. The Cougars led at the half 51-16 and held the Crusaders to only 6 points in the 1st quarter, & 10 points in the 2nd.

Julia Mantyla & Chloe McKnight took the Crusaders by storm exchanging 3's, assists, steals, and even some blocks for USF. Maddy Schenkel, Dionna Craig, & Sydney Fream also all made their first appearances at home for the Cougars. Mantyla finished with 17-points, 8 rebounds, & 2 blocks. McKnight finished the game with 23-points, 5 rebounds, & 1 steal. Reganne Pate (12-points), Lexi Shelton (10-points), Ally Madden (10-points), & Taylor Fordyce (11-points) were all in double-digit scoring for USF as well. Isabella Gizzi handled the ball well for the Cougars, running point for a majority of the game.

USF will reconvene this Saturday on the road with a short trip to Huntington, Indiana. The Cougars will take on the Foresters with a 1pm tip-off, with the men's game to follow shortly after at 3pm. The Foresters are 2-4 overall & 0-1 in Crossroads League play sitting in 7th overall compared to USF's 4th place standing. The last time these two teams met was back in February of 2023 where the Cougars emerged victorious with a 78-70 final. USF went 2-0 last season against the Foresters, and will look to do the same again this season.
