No. 3 Marian Knights Prove too Strong as Cougars Fall 4-0
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – On Saturday afternoon the University of Saint Francis Cougars (4-6-3; 0-3-1 Crossroads) faced a tough challenge when they traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana to take on the No. 3 Marian University Knights (11-0-1; 4-0-0 Crossroads) and fell 4-0.
As the game got underway the Knights showed the Cougars just why they're ranked number three in the NAIA as they created their first scoring opportunity in the game's first three minutes and cashed in with their first goal of the game in the third minute.
Freshman goalkeeper Kayden Tassler stepped up and made a couple of saves to keep it a one-goal game, but the Knights remained relentless doubling the lead in the 12th minute with a second goal.
Throughout the first half the Knights dominated the action while the Cougars defense had to stay resilient. A third goal midway through the frame put Marian ahead by three in the 24th minute followed by a fourth goal in the 38th minute as the game went to halftime with Saint Francis trailing 4-0.
Heading into the second half it was the Cougars that created the first scoring opportunity of the frame, but Marian's goalkeeper wouldn't let anything passed her.
Tassler had to step up and make a few other saves to keep her team in the game, but the Cougars could not manage any offensive production as they suffered the loss.
Throughout the game Tassler stepped up to make 12 saves against four goals allowed by the Cougars managed just one shot on the goal for the game.
The Cougars resume play next Wednesday evening when they return home to Bishop D'Arcy Stadium to face the Spring Arbor University Cougars (7-1-2; 2-1 Crossroads) beginning at 7:00 pm.
