Cougars Blank Michigan-Dearborn for Second Consecutive Shutout
DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's soccer team traveled to the University of Michigan-Dearborn for a non-conference match against the Wolverines on Tuesday, August 20.
The Cougars defeated the Wolverines by a final score of 1-0, making this the first time since 2005 that USF has started the season with consecutive shutouts.
Saint Francis was able to create early chances, narrowly missing the back of the net during the opening minutes of action on Tuesday night. USF and Michigan-Dearborn were in a scoreless tie until sophomore Jaylin Carroll netted her first collegiate goal in the 37th minute to put the Cougars up 1-0. Saint Francis outshot the Wolverines 9-2 in the first half as the Cougars were able to hold off Michigan-Dearbon to go into halftime on top.
The Cougars continued a strong offensive attack in the second half, forcing the opponents to make eight saves while holding off the Wolverines defensively to secure the 1-0 victory on Tuesday night.
As a team, USF outshot Michigan-Dearborn 16-4 and had seven corner kicks to the Wolverines' three. Kayden Tassler got the win in goal for the Cougars with one save in the first half, while Rachel Bova collected two saves in the second half of action for Saint Francis.
"I am very proud of the team tonight," Head Coach Ken Nuber said. "We outworked a good Michigan-Dearborn team to start the season 2-0, our first time starting out 2-0 since 2017."
Up next, Saint Francis women's soccer will host the University of Saint Francis (Ill.) on Sunday, August 25. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Bishop John M. D'Arcy Stadium.
