Cougars Top Saints 2-1 to Conclude Non-Conference Slate
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's soccer team capped off an undefeated non-conference season with a 2-1 home victory over Holy Cross College on Tuesday, September 17.
The Cougars' offense came out strong against a tough Saints defense on Tuesday night, firing three shots in the first fifteen minutes. Senior Carlee Biddle broke through at the 25:35 mark, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead with her third goal of the season. The match remained quiet until the second half, when junior Courtney Tobin assisted Haley Roberson's fourth goal of the season at the 50:56 mark, extending the Cougars' lead to 2-0. The lone Holy Cross goal came from a penalty kick in the final minute of the match, but the Cougars held on for a 2-1 win.
Saint Francis outshot Holy Cross 13-5 on Tuesday night. Seven of those shots were on goal for USF, with Jaylin Carroll and Biddle leading the way, each contributing two. Freshman Rachel Bova made three saves during the match, helping the Cougars maintain their lead and defeat the Saints.
Up next, USF women's soccer (7-0-2) will travel to Taylor University on September 25 for a Crossroads League matchup in Upland, Ind.
