USF Volleyball Concludes Day Two of Vipers Sports Academy Classic with 1-1 Record

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's volleyball team competed in day two of the Vipers Sports Academy Classic at the Student Life Center on the campus of Keiser University on Friday, August 16. The Cougars finished day two 1-1 to conclude the classic with an overall record of 2-2. 

CIU 3, SAINT FRANCIS 0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-13)

The Cougars opened Friday morning against Columbia International University at 8:00 a.m. CIU was able to jump out to an early lead in the first set, but USF answered and was able to take a 20-19 lead thanks to a kill from Addison ShaferThe Cougars and Rams battled back and forth, but CIU would come out on top 25-22. USF and CIU continued to battle through the second set. A kill from senior Paige Fortkamp tied the set up at 24 apiece. The Rams would hold on to take the second and third sets to win the match. 

As a team, the Cougars totaled 30 kills and eight aces in the opening match of the day. Paige Fortkamp led USF with 11 kills, while Hannah Sweeney had a team-high 10 digs. Teigen Fortkamp and Alexa Sparks each had 11 assists, and Emily Hughes collected five service aces. 

SAINT FRANCIS 3, SPARTANBURG METHODIST 0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-15)

The Cougars faced Spartanburg Methodist in their last match of the classic on Friday afternoon. Saint Francis grabbed a six-point lead in the opening set thanks to a kill from Kate McMullen. The Cougars would continue to lead and take the set 25-21. The Cougars' success continued into the second set, with USF also winning that one 25-21. Saint Francis was able to dominate the third set 25-15 to conclude the classic with a sweep over the Pioneers.

As a team, USF tallied 33 kills with a .247 hitting percentage. The Cougars were led by Paige Fortkamp with 11 kills and Teigen Fortkamp with 8 kills. Alexa Sparks finished the match with 15 assists, while Hannah Sweeney led with 15 digs.

Saint Francis volleyball is now 2-2 on the season and will return to action on Friday, August 24 as they host the 2024 Onset Invitational.
