FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) volleyball team hosted No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan University on Wednesday, October 16. The Cougars and Wildcats also came together for a Pink Out game to raise awareness for Breast Cancer.
IWU won Wednesday night's match by a final score of 3-1, with set scores of 26-24, 16-25, 14-25, 13-25.
After a close, back-and-forth first set, USF pulled ahead to take a 21-18 lead. The Wildcats would rally to take the 24-23 lead. A kill from Paige Fortkamp tied the score up at 24 and back-to-back attacking errors by Indiana Wesleyan would give the Cougars the first set victory. The back-and-forth battle continued in the second set with both squads trading points. The Wildcats would take a 17-14 lead and hang on to win set two and tie the match 1-1. Indiana Wesleyan would go on to win sets three and four.
As a team, USF finished the night with 41 kills, six block assists and four service aces. Paige Fortkamp led the Cougars with 16 kills and 10 digs. Addison Shafer added eight kills, while Kayla Gumbel finished the night with six kills. Teigen Fortkamp had 26 assists, five kills and three aces. Emily Hughes tallied three block assists, while Kate McMullen added a solo block on Wednesday night.
Up next, USF volleyball (8-16, 1-11) will travel to Goshen College for a Crossroads League clash against the Maple Leafs on October 19.
