
Cougars split in their IU-Kokomo & Madonna Day 1 Tri-Matchup
KOKOMO, Ind. - On Saturday afternoon the University of Saint Francis Cougars (3-5) took on the Indiana University of Kokomo Cougars (5-5) and also battled the Madonna Knights (1-3 ) in a doubleheader matchup losing the game against the IU Cougars 6-2, then winning 4-2 against Madonna.
In the opening game, junior pitcher Casey Henry took the mound to start for the Cougars. The IU Cougars would command an early lead in the bottom of the 1st off a double to left center field to go up 2-0. Then a 2 run RBI to center field later in the inning would let them extend their lead to 4-0. In the bottom of the third the IU Cougars hit a homerun that allowed two more runners to score making it 6-0. Henry's day on the mound would finish after this, but the Cougars would once again try to rally back. David Miller hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth which allowed a Cougar to score making it 1-6. Then in the top of the 6th Gavin Noble hit a single to center allowing a runner to score making it 2-6. Unfortunately, the Cougars ran out of steam on offense and stalled out, allowing the IU Cougars to win 6-2.
In the second series, sophomore pitcher Lukas North took the mound for the Cougars to start against the Madonna Knights. This time around the Cougars were the ones to command an early lead in the game, as Nick Parsons hit a single to right field allowing a runner to score making it 1-0 in the bottom of the 3rd. But, the Knights responded quickly in the top of the fourth with a single of their own and off a throwing error allowing the Knights to go up 2-1. Lukas North's Day would end on the mound shortly after this. This new look to the Cougars offense wouldn't submit to Madonna as they rallied back to win. Jayden Lepper hit a single to left field to tie the game at 2-2. Then, David Miller crushed a double to left field allowing a 2 run RBI for the Cougars to go up 4-2. This allowed the Cougars to close out the day with a victory.
The Cougars will play again tomorrow (2/26) against both teams staying put in Kokomo, Indiana. The first pitch for the Cougars against IU Kokomo will begin at 2:00pm Sunday.
