Cougars Sweep the Pilots Earning the 4-Game Series Dub

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- On Monday morning, The University of Saint Francis Cougars (9-14, 4-7) took on the University of Bethel Pilots (14-9; 5-6) in a doubleheader series winning both games by scores of 12-4 and 10-4.

In the first game, Cory Wolter earned the start n the mound for the Cougars. The Pilots, who were frustrated from the weekend loss, came out swinging in the 1st with a single going up 1-0. However, the Cougars were not intimated by the Pilots as they responded with 3 RBI's in retaliation, going up 3-1. The Pilots would answer back with a triple in the 2nd going up 4-3. Miscommunication in the outfield between Croxton & Miller advanced a runner to third, but the Pilots were not able to advance home. This was the last effort of offensive play from the Pilots for Game 1. From there, the Cougars got rolling as Xavier Croxton hit a 3-run homerun to make up for the miscommunication, and retook their lead and extended it to 6-4. Then, Jayden Lepper would score off an error in the 3rd making it 7-4. Sam Pesa would also hit a 3-run homerun in the 5th to make it 10-4. Finally, a sacrifice fly and an RBI single would be the icing on the cake for the Cougars offense making it 12-4 and winning the first game.

In the second game, Hunter Frost eared the start on the mound for the Cougars. The Cougars once again got rolling fast on the Pilots with a large amount of offensive might throughout the game. The hitting frenzy started with a Nick Parsons walk in the 1st to make it 1-0. Then, a single in the 2nd and a pair of 2-run RBI's in the 3rd would add onto the lead making it 6-0. Jayden Lepper was hit by a pitch in the 4th allowing a runner to score making it 7-0, as well as a David Miller sacrifice groundout making it 8-0. Then, the inning was capped off with an Xavier Croxton 2-run RBI single making it 10-0, and the Cougars would be able to sit comfortably the rest of the game. The Pilots did try to rally back late in the 7th with a pair of singles and a 2-run RBI triple making it 4-10, but it would not be enough. The Cougars closed out game two with a 10-4 victory and took the series sweep over the Bethel Pilots. Hunter Frost would allow zero runs scored during his six-inning tenure on the mound, a bright spot in the Cougars pitching they have been waiting for.

The Cougars next road series will be against Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats on March 24th with a 1PM first pitch start time. The Cougars will play at Wildcat Baseball Field in Marion, Indiana. The Cougars went 0-4 in their series with the Wildcats last season.
