Cougs Dethrone the Knights in Series Sweep

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- On Thursday evening, The University of Saint Francis Cougars (16-16, 11-9 Crossroads League) took on The Marion University Knights (13-17, 7-11 Crossroads League) in a doubleheader series winning both games by scores of 8-2 and 17-1.

In the first game of the series, Deron Swanson took the mound to start for the Cougars. The first few innings of the series were quiet on both sides as the defensive prowl was evident. As the 4th inning came around, the Cougars managed to get things "rolling," Coug style. David Miller revealed every dinger in his arseanl as he hit a solo homerun in the 4th and a 3-run homerun in the 5th to help lead the charge for the Cougars. Miller was also aided by a Brenden Lytle stolen base and an Aiden Lichtensteiger solo to make it 6-0 in the 5th. The Knights tried to rally back with an RBI to make it 6-1, but the Cougars would answer right back with yet another David Miller solo homerun and Aiden Lichtensteiger sacrifice fly to make it 8-1 in the 8th. The frustrated Knights tried to rally back with a single in the 9th, but it would not be enough. The Cougars would secure game one thanks to David Miller's 5 total homeruns on the day.

In the second game of the series, Blaine McRae would start on the mound for the Cougars. McRae is now 5-2 on the season with wins on the mound, and tallied 8 strikeouts in his 5 innings pitched, only allowing 1 run for the Knights.

The Cougars would continue their hot streak in the 1st off a David Miller sacrifice groundout to make it 1-0. However, the Knights would rally back off a quick error to tie it 1-1. From here, the Cougars would showcase some of the best offense of the season. They would score off a pair of 2-run RBIs, 2 singles, and a hit by pitch error all in the 2nd inning to make it 8-1. Later in the 4th, the Cougs would score more runs off of 2 errors, a hit by a pitch, a wild pitch, 2 singles, and a pair of 2-run RBIs all to make it 16-1 in the 4th. Finally, the offense would be capped off by taking advantage of another error making it 17-1 in the 6th. The frustrated Marian offense came up short, only able to add 3 more runs to the astounding defeicit, pushing the scoreline to a 17-4 final.

The Cougars next road series will be after Easter on Monday, April 10th, against the Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats in Marion, Indiana with a 1PM first pitch.
