Cougars Survive & Advance to Semi-Final Match-up with Foresters

HUNTINGTON, Ind. -- On Saturday May 7th, The University of Saint Francis Cougars took on The Mount Vernon University Cougars in their third tournament matchup, securing a victory 3-2.

In the tournament series, Riley Perlich started on the mound for the Cougars. The game would jump out early in the Cougars advantage as they scored off a Sam Pesa single in the 1st to make it 1-0. But, Mount Vernon looked to put pressure on the Cougars team to try and get them to fold. MVNU scored off a sacrificed fly and solo homerun to make it 2-1 in the 3rd. But, David Miller would strike back with his own solo homerun to make it 2-2. From there, it would be a defensive battle until about the 9th inning. Through the 5 1/2 innings pitched Riley Perlich only allowed 6 hits and 2 runs on the day. Then, Casey Henry would close 3 1/2 innings remaining with only 2 hits allowed. The Cougars would sneak by in the 9th inning, scoring off a Gavin Noble single to make it 3-2 for a Saint Francis victory advancing Brenden Lytle home.

The Cougars next tournament series opponent will be against the Huntington University Foresters with a 2:30PM first pitch today. If the Cougars win, they will play a second game at Huntington against Indiana Wesleyan for the Tournament title.
