Pineville, LA. — The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) Cougars returned for day two of the Louisiana Christian Classic to face off against Louisiana Christian University and Southern University at New Orleans for two 9 inning games. Saturday was all Cougs winning by run rule in both games, scoring 31 runs on the day.
Game one was against the Knights of Southern University at New Orleans. The Cougars jumped in the right away with back to back triples from Xavier Croxton and Sam Pesa. Followed by a double from Nick Parsons, a Kolton Cardenas sacrifice fly, and Callan Stauffer single to make it 5-0 early. The Knights battled to keep it close at first, but Casey Henry was dominant in his 3 innings of work out of the pen. Striking out 7 and not allowing a baserunner. The cherry on top was Gavin Noble with his first career homerun in the top of the 7th. Followed by Kolton Cardenas leaving the yard right after him for back to back homeruns. Jaden Markus closed the door in his first collegiate appearance striking out all three hitters. Cougs on top 16-5.
In game two the Cougars took on the Wildcats of Louisiana Christian. On the mound for the start, Deron Swanson limited the Wildcat offense to just 1 run in 4 innings of work. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead again with a Jayden Lepper 3-run homerun and Nick Parsons sac fly to make it 4-0. The game stayed 4-1 until the top of the fourth when the Cougars plated 7 runs, capped off by a Nick Parsons 3-run homerun. Hunter frost came out of the bullpen and continued to make the Wildcats work, only giving up 1 to make the score 15-2 going into the 7th. This game finished 15-3 in favor of the Saint Francis Cougars.
Your Cougars are now 7-1 and plan to play again this following weekend, February 23rd and 24th at Kokomo Municipal Stadium against IU Kokomo in a four game series. They will play begin on Friday at 12:00 PM EST.
