Cougs Drop the First Two in the Series to Trojans
Upland, Ind. -- The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) Cougars took on the Trojans of Taylor University in a double header on Friday. This is the opening series for the conference season and the Cougs dropped both.
Game 1 was a tight one from start to end. Perry Stowe with a gritty performance on the mound going 5.0 IP with 2 earned runs and 5 strikeouts. The Cougs found themselves down 2-0 after the first, and 4-0 after the third due to some defensive miscues. The offense responded by scoring 2 in the top of the fourth from a Xavier Croxton 2 RBI single. A Kolton Cardenas sacrifice-fly and Brenden Lytle double tied the game at 4 after the top half of the seventh. The Trojans responded with one of their own and there was no more offense in this one as the Cougars lost 5-4.
Game 2 did not go the Cougars way. After a 3-run homerun from the Trojans, Ayden Lichtensteiger responded with one of his own in the third to make it a 3-1 game. Taylor scored another to make it 4-1 heading into the sixth. The Cougar bullpen struggled to keep the Trojans in check as they had a big inning. USF lost this one 15-1.
The Cougars are now 9-5 overall and 0-2 in conference and will finish up the series against Taylor with their first game at noon tomorrow. Be sure to come out to Coug Field on a beautiful day for some baseball.
