Cougars Split the Day with the Foresters
Fort Wayne, Ind. --The University of Saint Francis (Ind). Cougars took on the Huntington University Foresters on Thursday afternoon for a Crossroads League matchup. It was a hard fought day of baseball resulting in a split day.
Game one started off at noon and it was a pitchers dual until the fourth inning. A walk and a double put the Foresters on the board up 3-0. Ayden Lichtensteiger stayed hot and singled to make the score 3-1. Geoffrey Niedens was great out of the bullpen limiting the offensive attack and keeping the Cougs in the game. He had 5 punch outs across 4 innings. After another double, Huntington went up 4-1. Ayden Lichtensteiger responded again making it a 4-2 ball game. An error from the Foresters helped the Cougs close the gap and make it 4-3, which is where this one would finish.
Game 2 started off with a bang from an early homerun for Huntington. The Cougs responded in the bottom half of the first by playing 4 of their own. An Ayden Lichtensteiger single, Sam Pesa single, and Gavin Noble double helped put these runs on the board. Huntington would later respond with another homerun to make it a 4-3 ball game. None other than Ayden Lichtensteiger came up big again and hit a 3-run homerun, his fourth of the year. Huntington tried to climb back with another homerun and scoring by error. However, it wasn't enough as Graham Kelham came in and shut the door, getting the save. Cougs on top 7-5.
All of the Cougar pitchers had a great day; Perry Stowe, Geoffrey Niedens, Luke Siren, and Graham Kelham were able to limit the Forester attack. Ayden Lichtensteiger was 5-7 with 6 rbis on the day, including a homerun. Eli Riley was 3-6 at the plate and continued to be an x-factor behind the dish, throwing out a couple of Foresters on the base paths.
The Cougars are now 11-7 and 2-4 in conference play and will finish up the four game series with Huntington on Monday. The first game will start at 12:00 PM EST.
