
USF Baseball splits series with Wildcats
Fort Wayne, Ind. --The University of Saint Francis (Ind). Cougars baseball team finished up their series against the Wildcats of Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday. Despite battling hard all day they dropped two close ones.
Game 1 was a tough battle that went into extra innings. Xavier Croxton manufactured his own run in the first to put the Cougars up 1-0. IWU responded in the third with a solo homerun to tie it up. Kolton Cardenas singled in the fourth to make it 2-1. And the Wildcats responded in the top of the fifth tying it up. They then took the lead in the eighth inning, but USF responded and kept it tied going into the ninth. Despite building some innings the Cougars couldn't plate one and the Wildcats scored on a bizarre play in the eleventh to win this one 4-3.
Game 2 was another close and interesting game. Kolton Cardenas put USF up early in the second on an rbi single. IWU responded by tying it up in the fifth, and they took a lead on a two run homerun in the sixth. The game was called due to daylight and it finished 3-1 in favor of the Wildcats.
The Cougars are now 17-12 and 7-9 in conference play. They will take on the Cougars of Spring Arbor University who are 8-17 overall and 3-11 in conference. The first pitch will be on Thursday at 4:00 PM est at Hank Burbridge Field in Spring Arbor, Michigan.
