USF Esports Concludes 2024-2025 Season

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Cougar Esports team continued to strive to new heights in the 2024-2025 season! Beginning in the Fall of 2024, the USF Overwatch team, competing in just their second season, started their campaign blazing hot with four straight 3-0 wins. They finished the Fall season 4-1 and qualified for the NECC Playoffs for the first time. They fell to undefeated IU Kokomo in the NECC Quarterfinals, but it was still an outstanding accomplishment to qualify for the playoffs in just their second season competing! The Spring was a bit of a different story after moving up to a higher division. They finished the Spring season with a 1-5 record but gained very valuable experience to carry into the 2025-2026 season!

The USF Rocket League team also competed both semesters. They finished the Fall season with a 2-5 record, but two game-five losses could have easily gone their way and launched them into the playoffs. In the Spring, the Cougars used that fire in their hearts to bounce back and finish the regular season 4-3, which qualified them for the playoffs for the second time! They fell to the undefeated University of Alabama-Huntsville in the NECC Quarterfinals, but it was still a very successful season.

The USF Super Smash Bros team continued their competition in the fiercely competitive Great Lakes Esports Conference in both the Fall and Spring semesters. In the Fall, they picked up wins over Indiana Wesleyan and Heidelberg University but ultimately finished 2-7. In the Spring, they picked up another two wins but finished with a 2-7 record once again. Despite their record, they fought extremely hard, competing in one of the toughest conferences for Smash in the entire country!

The USF Esports team is actively recruiting and offering scholarships for the Fall of 2025 in Rocket League, Valorant, Overwatch 2, and Super Smash Bros. If you or anyone you know is interested in joining the USF ESports team, please contact Head Esports Coach Tyler Speigl at tspeigl@sf.edu.
