
Cougars Emerge Victorious over No. 20-Ranked Roosevelt
CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's basketball team resumed their season with the final game of the 2023 schedule. USF knocked off the No. 20-Ranked Roosevelt Lakers with a final score of 92-79 yesterday afternoon.
The Cougars led for the entirety of the game, but were outsourced in the second half. USF's large lead at the half was too steep of a mountain for the Lakers to overcome, going into the locker room with a 52-29 advantage.
Four Cougars were in double-digit scoring, with one athlete tallying a double-double in the victory. USF shot 53.7% from the field as a team and were 96.6% from the free throw line, going 28-for-29.
Charlie Yoder led the Cougars in overall scoring with 28-points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists proving to be unstoppable in the paint and from mid-range. Luke Almodovar also added in 20-points, 1 block, and a steal to the prowess. Zane Burke tallied his first double-double of the season, recording 14-points, 12 rebounds, & 7 assists. Joey Bomba & Jackson Gowdy combined for 10-points & 3 rebounds off the bench.
The Cougars have now improved to 9-4 overall and will return for the 2024 season, stepping right back into Crossroads League play. USF will return home for their first game of the 2024 calendar year, playing host to the Bethel University (Ind.) Pilots. Tip-off is set for this coming Wednesday, January 3rd for a 7:30pm start-time.
