Saint Francis Drops Mid-Week Crossroads League Battle Against MVNU

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's basketball team dropped a mid-week Crossroads League game against visiting Mount Vernon Nazarene on Wednesday, January 8. 

After MVNU took an early 14-7 lead in the first six minutes of Wednesday night's game, USF responded with an 8-0 run to take a one-point lead with 13:02 left in the first half. However, Mount Vernon Nazarene regained the lead and built momentum, closing out the first half with a 54-43 advantage.

Saint Francis began the second half with a layup just 12 seconds into play. Although USF closed the gap to within five possessions, MVNU's offense remained strong throughout the second half, boasting an 83.3% shooting percentage from three-point range as Mount Vernon Nazarene won the matchup with a final score of 98-73.

As a team, USF shot 54.2% (26-48) from the field while outscoring MVNU 38-28 in the paint. Sophomore Luke Almodovar led Saint Francis with 26 points, followed by fellow sophomore Isaiah Malone who shot 9-11 for 23 points. Malone also finished the night with four rebounds and a block. Branden Northern dished out six assists and Joe Reidy had a team-high six rebounds on Wednesday night.

Up next, USF men's basketball (11-5, 4-2) will travel to Marian University on Saturday, January 11 for a 3:00 p.m. tipoff against the Knights.
