Cougars Bounce Back for 15-Point Win at Marian

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's basketball team came back from behind to secure a 72-57 win over Marian University on Saturday, January 11. 

After trailing 14-4 with 12:19 on the clock in the first half of action, the Cougars offense started to heat up as USF cut Marian's lead to 24-18 at the 6:14 mark. The Knights answered, taking a 28-18 lead with 4:18 to play in the half. Saint Francis held the host team scoreless while scoring 10 points in the final four minutes to tie the game up at halftime. 

The Cougars carry their momentum into the second half with a dunk from sophomore Isaiah Malone, followed by two free throws from Luke Almodovar, extending their run to 14 unanswered points. USF extended its lead to double-digits with the score at 40-30 with 15:05 on the clock. The Cougars held off a Marian run and used a two-minute stretch to increase their lead to 14 with just under six and a half minutes left to play in Saturday's game. Two made free throws put USF up 72-57 and the Cougars held the Knights scoreless in the final minute and a half to secure the 15-point win on the road.

As a team, Saint Francis shot 52.6% (20-38) from the floor and went 7-17 from deep. Almodovar led with 18 points, followed by Zane Burke who shot 4-6 from three-point range to finish with 16 points. Burke also pulled down six rebounds on Saturday afternoon. Malone tied his career-high six blocks against the Knights while scoring 14 points and coming away with seven rebounds and two steals. Robert Fry II also scored in double digits, playing 22 minutes off the bench and scoring 11 points.

Up next, USF men's basketball (12-5, 5-2) will host Grace College for a mid-week Crossroads League clash on Wednesday, January 15.
