(RV) Cougars Topped by No. 19 Foresters
HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The (RV) University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's basketball team fell to the No. 19 ranked Foresters of Huntington University by a final score of 91-69 on Saturday, February 1.
Huntington jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the opening minutes of Saturday's matchup. The Cougars got on the scoreboard and cut the Foresters' lead to three points with 17:26 on the clock. However, Huntington maintained their advantage and extended it to double digits. Despite USF's efforts to rally, they were unable to narrow the gap, and Huntington took a 48-34 lead at halftime.
A dunk from Isaiah Malone and a tipped-in by a Huntington defender brought USF within 10 points to start the second half. Saint Francis was unable to stop the Foresters' offense as HU maintained control of the game and would go on to win Saturday's contest by a final score of 91-69, splitting the regular season series with the Cougars.
As a team, the Cougars shot 36.8% (21-57) from the field on Saturday afternoon. Luke Almodovar led USF with 19 points. D'Amare Hood added 11 points, three steals and a block. Branden Northern scored 10 points, pulled down four rebounds and came away with three steals.
Up next, USF men's basketball (15-7, 8-4) will host No. 7 Bethel University for a midweek Crossroads League game day on Wednesday, February 5. The Cougars and Pilots previously met in December, where Bethel defeated USF 95-78.
