FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's basketball team dropped the regular season finale to visiting Spring Arbor University by a final score of 75-57 on Saturday, February 22.
Before Saturday afternoon's game, the USF men's basketball team held a short, on-court ceremony to honor its senior class.
Spring Arbor took an early lead of 10-5 in the first five minutes of Saturday's matchup. USF managed to cut Spring Arbor's lead to three points, bringing the score to 16-13 with 12:06 remaining in the first half. However, Spring Arbor responded with two layups to extend their lead to seven points. A three-pointer from senior Robert Fry II brought USF within two points at 7:11 on the clock, but Spring Arbor maintained their lead, finishing the first half with a score of 44-26.
To start the second half, Fry added another three-pointer along with a free throw, bringing the score to 44-30. Despite scoring 31 points in the second half, Saint Francis struggled to contain Spring Arbor's offense as SAU never relinquished their lead to win the game by a final of 75-57.
The USF Cougars shot 37.7% (20-53) from the floor and 32% (8-25) from three-point range. Luke Almodovar led with 19 points while pulling down five rebounds and coming away with four steals. Fry followed with 11 points, while Isaiah Malone had seven points and 10 rebounds. Fellow senior Zane Burke added six points and Branden Northern dished out three assists and came away with five rebounds.
USF men's basketball concludes the regular season with an overall record of 17-11 and a Crossroads League record of 10-8. Saint Francis earned the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament and will travel to the No. 3 seed Huntington University, who is ranked No. 14 in the NAIA polls, on Tuesday, February 25.
