Cougars Look to Impact CL Conference Tourney with Trending Play
SOUTHBEND, Ind. -- The Men's golf team competed over the weekend at Bethel University's Invitational held at Blackthorn Golf Club.
After Round 1 the Cougars were tied for 8th place out of 11 teams. In round 1 USF had very consistent shooting with a team total of 311, with all 4 scores counted in the mid – upper 70s. Unfortunately, USF just didn't have any low scores to bring the team score down. This was the first time any of the 5 golfers had seen the course, so the Cogars played conservativly and avoided big numbers.
In round 2 the Cougs did much better, again with all scores in the 70's, but USF had some near par scores to bring their team score down to 301. This was the best USF has played as a team all season and with Conference coming up in couple of weeks the boys are trending in the right direction. With USF's strong second round, the Cougs moved up 3 places and finished in 5th place overall, which was nice to see.
USF also beat the other Crossroads League teams that were in the field so the boys were excited about that. The Cougars next event will be next Monday (4/24) and Tuesday (4/25) here in Fort Wayne, at Brookwood Golf club.
