USF Shakes off some Rust in the 1st Golf Invite of the 2023 Season
YORKTOWN, Ind. – The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) Men's Golf team traveled to Taylor University to compete in the Taylor University Invitational at the Players Club in Yorktown, Indiana back on September 11th & 12th. USF competed with 6 guys with one competing as an "Golf Individual" and the other 5 competing as a team.
As a team, the Cougars shot a 314 in Round 1 and a 302 in Round 3. ALthough they struggled through the first 18, USF improved by 12 shots over the 2nd 18-hole round. Wyatt Johnson was recorded as player #1 on the Invitational for USF and went 75-75. Seth Roop shot a 76-75 as player #4 & Bailey Marquardt shot a 78-73 as player #2.
Chris Guhl had an 84 in Round 1 & it was the 4th score overall that counted. Levi Follett also shot a 78 for the 4th counted score in Round 2 of the Invitational.
"You could definitely see the rust from the men, but ultimately, they were able to shake it off for the second round, which was the highlight of our Invitational," stated Head Coach David Belville. Some more highlights included Seth Roop having the opportunity to line-up for an eagle putt on hole #2, Bailey Marquardt lined up for a birdie on hole #15, & Levi Follett was able to chip in on hole #15 to record the birdie for USF.
Overall, the Cougars have some time to reset and prepare for their next Invitational on Monday September 18th & Tuesday September 19th. The Cougars will compete at the Cardinal Classic at Washtenaw Golf Club in Ypsilanti, Michigan for a 36 & 18 hole regional between the two days.
