Jake Bosco's Two Goals & Jaime Robledo's Shutout Propel Cougars Past Adrian
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – On Wednesday evening the University of Saint Francis Cougars (4-0-1) traveled to Adrian, Michigan to take on the Adrian College Bulldogs (0-2) and backed by five goals and a stellar performance in net by Jaime Robledo won 5-0.
After a dominating 11-0 win on Saturday including a program record 10 goals in a single half, the Cougars picked up right where they left off in all aspects of the game.
Saint Francis went on the offensive and had three shots in the opening 15 minutes while keeping the Bulldogs on their heels. Then in the 28th minute the Cougars broke through. Junior defender Cannon Dakin passed the ball to sophomore defender Dominic Borucki who kicked it in the net to give Saint Francis a 1-0 lead.
Through the remainder of the first half the Cougars kept pressing while their defense stepped up when the Bulldogs threatened. No other shots would prevail though as the game went to halftime with Saint Francis still leading 1-0.
Heading into the second half, the Cougars didn't skip a beat. Four more shots were either saved or went just wide and then the Bulldogs came back with an offensive drive of their own but junior goalkeeper Jaime Robledo made a couple key saves to keep his team in the lead.
Robledo's teammates then rewarded their goalie as sophomore forward Alessandro Florencia scored on an assist by junior midfielder Mateo Abella to double the lead in the 54th minute.
As the game entered the final 25 minutes, the Cougars weren't done. This time it was sophomore forward Jake Bosco who got the ball from Abella twice in under a minute and scored two goals 37 seconds apart as Saint Francis made it 4-0 with both goals coming in the 69th minute.
A fifth goal in the 80th minute from freshman defender Francisco Moura was more than enough for the Cougars to enjoy their fourth shutout of the season.
Throughout the game, Abella stepped up and made six saves while not allowing a single goal while his teammates manufactured 14 shots on goal with five going in.
The Cougars resume play on Saturday afternoon when they return home to Bishop D'Arcy Stadium to take on the Franklin College Grizzlies (0-3) beginning at 1:00 pm.
