Cougars Drop to No. 3-Ranked Grace Lancers

WINONA LAKE, Ind. -- The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's soccer team traveled to Winona Lake, Indiana Wednesday evening for an NAIA top-5 match-up with the No. 3-Ranked Grace College Lancers. The Cougars fell to the Lancers within a 3-minute mental lapse, dropping the game 2-1 in the 74th minute.

The Cougars matched the Lancer intensity in the first half, playing very passive and shifting well defensively to shut the Lancers out for 41-minutes. In the 42nd minute, the Lancers connected with the back of the net due to a misclearance on top of the eighteen-yard box. USF trailed 1-0 going into the half, but got onto the scoreboard first to tie things up in the second half.

Fabio Leschinsky scored the lone goal for the Cougars in the 70th minute. Both Dominik Borucki & Guilherme Girotto Franco assisted the goal. The Cougars could not hold off the Lancer attack, and allowed Josh Cruz of Grace to score only 4-minutes later.

USF fired off 6 shots total, 3 of which were on goal. Jannik Reiss recorded 90-minutes in net & made 2 saves on 4 shots on frame. Alonso Martinez & Fabio Leschinsky both fired off 2 shots a piece as well for the Cougars.

USF will return home this Saturday for a 7pm kick-off time hosting the Goshen College Maple Leaves. The Cougars are now 7-4-3 overall & 0-2-3 in Crossroads League play.
