Cougars Fall Short to Cardinals
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's soccer team traveled to Concordia for a road match against the Cardinals on Wednesday, August 21.
The Cougars dropped Wednesday night's game by a final score of 4-2.
Concordia struck first, netting a goal in the 15th minute of the match off a long throw-in. The Cardinals scored again in the 28th minute to take a 2-0 lead, but the Cougars were not done yet. With just five minutes left to play in the first half, USF sophomore Nicolás Balbin scored after Concordia tried to clear a shot off the goal line to cut the Cardinals' lead to one going into halftime.
The Cougars continued to battle back, with Francisco Moura scoring his first goal of the season to tie the score up at 2-2 less than three minutes into the start of the second half. Imtiyaaz Kamaldien assisted on USF's second goal. Concordia retook the lead in the 54th minute as Evan Lock netted his second goal of the night. The Cardinals scored again in the final two minutes of the match to take Wednesday night's game 4-2.
Saint Francis took eight shots during the match, five of which landed on goal. The Cougars finished the night with three corner kicks to Concordia's two. Toby Lewis collected four saves in goal for USF.
Up next, Saint Francis men's soccer will host Defiance College in the Cougars' first home match of the season on Tuesday, August 27. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Bishop John M. D'Arcy Stadium.
