FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's soccer team earned their third straight win after defeating Lourdes University by a final score of 4-2 on Wednesday, September 11.
The Cougars took control of the ball early, with Jai Van Lim passing it to Mika Leib who shot it into the back of the net to put USF up 1-0 after the first 20 seconds of action. Freshman Nicolas Balbin scored his second goal of the season in the final five minutes of the first half to put the Cougars up 2-0. Paul Schieifele assisted on the goal.
In the 77th minute of Wednesday night's game, Schieifele dribbled down the field and fired off a shot that would go past the Gray Wolves' goalie and into the right side of the net for the Couars' third goal of the match. Less than three minutes later, the freshman found the back of the net again to put USF up 4-0. Lourdes would respond with two goals of their own in the 81st and 82nd minutes, but the Cougars would hold them off for the 4-2 victory.
Both teams had 13 shots on the night, but Saint Francis would win the battle in corner kicks with four compared to Lourdes' two. Dominik Borucki and Mika Leib each added a shot on goal, while Toby Lewis had seven saves in goal for USF.
Up next, USF men's soccer (4-3-0) will host St. Mary of the Woods at Bishop John M. D'Arcy Stadium on Saturday, September 14. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
