Men's Soccer Earns Spot in Crossroads League Tournament with 2-0 win over MVNU on Senior Night

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) concluded the regular season with a chance to earn a spot in the Crossroads League Tournament during Senior Night against Mount Vernon Nazarene on Wednesday. October 30.
The Cougars defeated MVNU by a final score of 2-0, securing the No. 8 seed in the conference tournament. Prior to the start of the match, USF men's soccer honored its eight seniors, Cerna, Borucki, Halabi, Subiran, Ramirez, Hollmann, Moura, Wright, Gil, and Fattouh, with a short, on-field ceremony.
USF took possession of the ball early and was able to outshoot Mount Vernon Nazarene 9-2 in the first half of action on Wednesday. With the score knotted at 0-0, Henning Bundschuh found Christian Walter who fired a shot passed the MVNU goalkeeper and into the back of the net to put USF up 1-0 at the 39:44 mark. Walter now leads Saint Francis with seven goals on the season. The Cougar defense kept MVNU from scoring to keep the one-goal lead at halftime.
A shot by Joshua Boschveld that was saved by the Mount Vernon Nazarene goalie gave USF the opportunity for a corner kick with just under 30 minutes left to play in the second half. Boschveld lined up to take the corner kick, sending the ball past the opposing team and into the far back corner of the net to give Saint Francis the 2-0 lead. The USF defense held MVNU scoreless, only allowing two shots in the second half as Saint Francis secured the 2-0 win.
Overall, Saint Francis outshot MVNU 17-4, with eight of the Cougars' shots landing on goal. Saint Francis finished the night taking six corner kicks compared to Mount Vernon Nazarene's three.
USF men's soccer concludes the regular season with an overall record of 7-8-2 and a conference record of 1-5-2. Up next, the No. 8 Cougars will travel to No. 1 seeded Huntington University for the Crossroads League Quarterfinals on November 6.
