
Lady Cougar Showdown Ends in MVNU Favor
FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- On March 28, 2023, the University of Saint Francis Lady Cougars faced off against the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars in a Crossroads League Conference match-up. Despite their best efforts, the Lady Cougars dropped the series, falling to the visiting Cougars with a final score of 11-0 in Game One and 11-1 in Game Two.
Starting pitcher for the Lady Cougars, Mia Werner, had a solid outing, pitching two innings and allowing only three hits. Relief pitcher, Kenzie Rust, gave up 4 hits and struck out one batter.
On the offensive side, the Lady Cougars struggled to get their bats going, managing only 3 hits in the game. Freshman outfielder, Mady Minnich, had a solid day at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double. Senior Outfielder, Aubrey Dunnuck, also had a hit, while Junior catcher, Tori Miller, contributed with a hit.
The starting pitcher for The University of Saint Francis in Game 2 was Erika Turpin, who pitched a solid 3 innings, allowing 6 hits. She was relieved by both Mia Werner and Kenzie Rust.
On the offensive side, The University of Saint Francis was led by Tori Miller, who went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Other offensive highlights for the Cougars included 3 more hits by Macie Dowd, Dani Karr, and Brooklyn McCord.
Despite the losses, the Lady Cougs remain determined to improve. USF will look to bounce back in their next series Thursday March 30th and come out with a win. The Lady Cougars are now 5-13 overall and 1-9 in the Crossroads League. The Lady Cougars will travel to play fellow Crossroads League opponent, Goshen College Thursday March 30. Goshen College is 15-8 overall and 7-3 in the CL Conference.
First pitch for the 2-Game series will be at 3PM at Goshen College Softball Complex| DH Game 1 | Game 2 will follow 30 minutes after the final out of Game 1.
