SAU Spoils Senior Day for the Cougars

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The USF Cougars dropped both games of the 2-game SENIOR DAY series with the opposing Spring Arbor University Cougars with scores of 6-10, & 4-5. In the first game of a two-game series between the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) Cougars and Spring Arbor University, the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) unfortunately dropped the game to their opponents, 6-10.

Despite the loss, there were still some standout performances from the Cougars. Mia Werner started on the mound for the Cougars and pitched the entirety of the game, going for 7 innings, walking 4 batters, giving up 10 runs, striking out 4 batters, and her overall record of starts is now 7-8.

On the offensive side, Paiton Iliff had an outstanding game, hitting two homeruns and going 3-for-4 at the plate, which tallied her 4 RBI's. Tori Miller also had a good game, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Brenna Homan added 2 stolen bases to her impressive record, while Brooklyn McCord contributed 2 RBI's to the scoreboard. Additionally, Tori Miller, Dani Karr, and Abby Erwin all hit doubles to advance the Cougars into scoring positions.

Despite the strong performances from individual players, the Cougs were unable to come out on top in game one against SAU. However, with a talented group of players, there is still plenty of potential for the team as they move forward in the season.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Cougars fell short to SAU, 5-4. However, USF showed a valiant effort to try to split the series witht he opposing Cougars.

Mackenzie Rust pitched for all 7 innings for the Cougars and allowed 6 hits and tallied 5 strikeouts to help her defense. At the plate, Aubrey Dunnuck went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI's. Anna Smith also went 2-for-2 with 1 RBI. In addition, Dunnuck, Macie Dowd, and Anna Smith all tallied 1 stolen base each in the game.

Despite their efforts, the USF Cougars dropped the second game of the series and now have an overall record of 16-24 and are10-20 in the Crossroads League.

The Cougars will be back in action on Tuesday, April 25th in Winona Lake, Indiana. They will be facing off against the Grace College Lancers at Coach Phil Dick Field, located at 717 E. Pierceton Rd., Winona Lake, IN 46590. It is worth mentioning that Grace College is also on a one game losing streak.
