Kenzie Rust helps the Cougs advance in CL Tourney

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) Cougars defeated the Huntington University Foresters in the first round of the Crossroads League Tournament with a final score of 7-2. The Cougars are set to compete again today (May 4) in the double elimination bracket.

Pitcher Kenzie Rust was a standout player for the Cougars, pitching the entirety of the game and recording 3 strikeouts and allowing only 4 hits and 2 earned runs. Additionally, Macie Dowd's triple and Tori Miller's home run added to the Cougars' lead.

The Cougars tallied 6 RBI's, with Dani Karr contributing 3 of them. Aubrey Dunnuck, Paige Oldham, Paiton Iliff, and Brenna Homan all recorded one stolen base each. Brooklyn McCord also had a strong showing at the plate, going 2 for 2. Macie Dowd, Tori Miller, Aubrey Dunnuck, and Dani Karr also all had great showings ta the plate finding the sweet-spots in the barrels of their bats.

Next up, the Cougars will take on the Spring Arbor University Cougars at 10am in Mount Vernon, Ohio in round two of the Crossroads League tournament. With this impressive win under their belt, the Cougars are sure to come out strong and continue their journey towards victory in the tournament. This win improved the Cougars to 23-24 overal and 16-20, falling in 5th for the Crossroads League standings.
