Cougars fall to the IWU Wildcats to close out their Post-Season Run

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) Cougars wrapped up their 2023 softball season with a post-season loss to Indiana Wesleyan, 8-3. Despite the loss, the Cougars put up a fight.
Kenzie Rust started on the mound for the Cougars. Rust pitched for 3.1 innings, recording 2 strikeouts, 9 hits, and 7 earned runs in her 22 batters faced. Mia Werner came in to pitch relief for 2.2 innings, tallying 4 strikeouts, 1 hit, and 1 earned run in her 10 batters faced.
Offensively, Aubrey Dunnuck had a strong showing, bringing in 2 RBI's, while Brenna Homan added 1 RBI and Paiton Iliff had a sac-fly. Anna Smith also had a stolen base. Key at-bats came from Tori Miller and Paiton Iliff, both going 1 for 2 at the plate.
The Cougars took the lead in the top of the 4th inning, but defensively struggled to close out the bottom of the 4th, giving up 6 runs and momentum for the game.
Although the season ended in a loss, the Cougars finished with some record-breaking talents, such as Tori Miller. Fans can look forward to seeing potential Cougar names in the All Crossroads League Conference Teams.
Overall, the Cougars finished their 2023 season with a .469 season record, going 23-26 overall and 16-20 in Conference, finishing 6th in the League.
