Cougars Take Care of Business with No Hitter Against Aquinas
The USF Cougars defeated Aquinas Saints 8-0 on Saturday at Space Coast Stadium. The Cougs won thanks in part to five runs in the third inning. Macie Dowd doubled, scoring one run, Bree Miller tripled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, and an error scored one run. Dowd collected four hits in four at bats - doubled in the third inning, singled in the fifth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the fourth inning.
Mackenzie Rust earned the win for USF locking in a no hitter. The starting pitcher allowed zero hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out six and walking two. Grace Maguire took the loss for Aquinas Saints Varsity. They went four and two-thirds innings, giving up eight runs (four earned) on 10 hits, striking out two and walking two.
USF was locked in in the field and didn't commit a single error. Madyson Minnich had the most chances in the field with seven.
Lena Viggiano's Big Day Propels USF Cougars Past Webber International Warriors
Lena Viggiano collected three hits in four at bats, as the Cougars defeated Webber International Warriors 6-2 on Saturday. Viggiano doubled in the seventh inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the fifth inning.The Cougs got on the board in the third inning after Viggiano singled, scoring one run.
#16 singled, which helped Webber International Warriors tie the game at one in the bottom of the third. Webber International Warriors took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. #28 scored after tagging up, to give Webber International Warriors the advantage, 2-1.
Viggiano singled, which helped USF tie the game at two in the top of the fifth. The Cougars captured the lead, 6-2, in the top of the seventh after Viggiano doubled, Bree Miller doubled, Anna Smith singled, and Miller stole home, each scoring one run.
Lex Huth stepped in the circle first for USF. The right-handed pitcher gave up three hits and two runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking one. #30 opened the game for Webber International Warriors. They gave up nine hits and six runs over six and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking three. Elle Sauder threw three innings of zero-run ball for USF Cougars 2024 in relief. They surrendered two hits, striking out five and walking none.
Smith and Viggiano each collected three hits. USF stole four bases in the game, with Sam Baker getting two of those.
