
Lady Cougs fall to a Strong Taylor side
UPLAND, Ind. – The Lady Cougs fell to a strong Taylor University side Saturday afternoon with a final of 60-73. The Lady Cougars will look to bounce back Wednesday evening traveling to Goshen, Indiana to take on the Maple Leafs. USF now falls to 6-7 in the Crossroads League.
USF fell to an 0-7 start against the Trojans due to turnovers and defensive plays sparking the Trojan offense. The Lady Cougars shot 46% from the field in the first half and trailed at the end of both quarters. Second chance points fell to Taylor as well due to the 10 USF turnovers from miscommunication.
Julia Mantyla got things started for the Lady Cougars in the 3rd with a deep range 3-pointer to cut down the halftime lead from the Trojans. The Cougars started with a 5-0 scoring spell, but were unable to hold onto momentum.
Overall USF shot 46% from the field and 50% from 3-point range. The Lady Cougs capitalized on the 12 turnovers Taylor had, scoring 13 points from them. USF was outrebounded from Taylor 22:31, but outshot the Trojans in the paint 24:18.
Key contributors included Emily Parrett leading overall scoring for USF with 19 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. Cassidy Crawford contributed 12 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds. Game changers for the Lady Cougs included Ally Madden off the bench scoring 11 points and grabbing 5 boards while dishing out 3 assists.
The Lady Cougars are now 10-13 overall and 6-7 in conference. The Lady Cougars will travel to Goshen, Indiana Wednesday February 1, to face-off with the Goshen Maple Leafs. Tip-off is set for 7pm at Ruth Gunden Gymnasium. The last match-up with the Maple Leafs ended in a 66-58 victory at Hutzell Athletic Center back in November.
