Cougars face 1st Loss on the Road Against Cross-Town Rival

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) Cougars traveled down the road to Indiana Tech for a non-conference match-up Wednesday afternoon. The Cougars led by 14-points at the half, but were unable to hold on for a 80-76 loss on the road. USF is now 3-1 overall.

Isabella Gizzi led in overall scoring in the first half, proving to shoot beyond the 3-point arc and driving to the rim, making her unstoppable in transitional play. Taylor Fordyce, Fatima Valiente, & Carly Culberson were key components off the bench, forcing turnovers & orchestrating the fast break for USF along with grabbing some key offensive boards.

Culberson ignited the comeback in the fourth quarter with a quiet 3 pointer and a pair of free throws. Isabella Gizzi, Chloe McKnight, & Taylor Fordyce all led in overall scoring with 16-points each. Gizzi also had 2 steals, McKnight had 2 assists and 4 rebounds, & Fordyce chipped in 1 block, 3 assists, and 9 rebounds, almost in double-double figures. Julia Mantyla was also in double digit scoring with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and a block.

As a team, USF shot 47.4% from the field, 38.9% from 3-point range, & 60% from the foul line (15-for-25). The Cougars will continue on the road this weekend for two games in Joliet, Illinois.
