Cougars Fall in CL Home Opener to the Leafs
FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's basketball team played host tot he Goshen College Maple Leafs to open up their home tenure for the Crossroads League. USF entered into the game 1-0 in CL Play & 7-1 overall. The Maple Leafs are now on a seven game winning streak, defeating the Cougars and snapping their 4-game winning streak with a 77-68 final in Hutzell.
USF started off slow, trailing by 6-points in the first quarter, but fought back for a 14-14 tied game. The Cougars outshot the Leafs by 3-points in the second quarter, but entered into the half trailing 35-32. In the third, USF was outshot by the Leafs 20:14. And finally in the fourth, USF & the Leafs both scored 22 points, but execution for the Cougars shooting from the field fell short for the loss.
Key contributors to the Cougar effort came from Ally Madden and Chloe McKnight. Madden had 20points, leading USF in overall scoring & chipping in 4 rebounds, 1 assist, & 1 steal. McKnight went off in the third & fourth quarters with hot hands, finishing the contest with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, & 1 steal trying to propel USF over the Leafs.
The Cougars are now 1-1 in Crossroads League play and 7-2 overall. USF will take a short break due to Thanksgiving Break, but will be back next Wednesday November 29th. USF will play host to the Great Lakes Christian Crusaders for a 7pm tip-off in Hutzell.
