Cougars Crumple the Leaf's in CL Showdown
GOSHEN, Ind. -- The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) Lady Cougars hit the road to take on Goshen College for a Crossroads League conference match-up on Wednesday evening. The Cougs started out with an early lead and never gave it back, winning this one 67-58.
Despite it being back and forth, USF jumped out to a 1-point lead on a Taylor Fordyce shot heading into the second quarter. To open up the quarter, Chloe McKnight hit back to back threes, and the Lady Cougs went on a run to go up 7 at the half. The Leafs made it interesting by cutting the lead to 3 after the third. But, USF held on to win in the end, hitting clutch free throws to extend the lead.
Chloe McKnight led the Lady Cougs in scoring with 19 points. She also was hard to get by on the defensive end, adding on 4 steals. Emily Parrett did well to spread the love as she had 8 assists to go along with 8 points of her own. Off the bench, Ally Madden provided some help by scoring 11 points and coming down with 6 rebounds. Isabella Gizzi also chipped in 9-points & 6 rebounds coming off a nagging set-back in practice this week.
USF is now 12-8 overall and 5-6 in Crossroads League play. The Lady Cougars will play again in the Hutzell Athletic Center this Saturday February 3rd. The Lady Cougs will take on the Huntington Foresters at 1:00 PM EST. Huntington University is currently 11-10 overall and 5-6 in Crossroads League Play. The last team these two teams matched up was in Huntington, Indiana in Platt Arena, where the Foresters took the 2-point overtime win.
