Cougars Cruise Past Trojans in Conference Opener

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's basketball team opened Crossroads League play with an 88-57 win over the visiting Taylor University Trojans on Wednesday, November 20. 

USF went on an 8-2 run in the opening minutes of Wednesday night's matchup. After Taylor tied the score at 8-8 with 6:32 on the clock in the first quarter, the Cougars would go on to outscore the Trojans 21-9 for the 29-17 lead at the end of the first. Saint Francis would pull ahead in while holding Taylor to 10 points for the 40-27 lead at halftime. 

The Cougars' offense stayed hot in the second half, with USF outscoring Taylor 27-13 in the third quarter. A layup from freshman Emma Reust at the 2:37 mark of the fourth quarter gave USF their biggest lead of the night, with the score at 84-51. Saint Francis would go on to win Wednesday night's game by a final score of 88-57 for the Cougars' eighth win in a row. 

The Cougars shot 47.8% (33-69) from the field and 44.8 % (13-29) from three-point range while outrebounding the Trojans 45-28. Cali Gregory finished with a career-high 31 points after going 11-16 from the floor and 7-10 from deep. The freshman also added four assists. Cassidy Crawford added 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists against Taylor, while Isabella Gizzi contributed nine points and six rebounds. Chloe McKnight finished the night with a team-high two blocks.

Up next, USF women's basketball (8-0, 1-0) will continue conference play at Goshen on November 23.
