WINONA LAKE, Ind. - The No. 9 Cougars of the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) completed the regular season sweep of the Grace College Lancers with a 77-53 win on Wednesday, February 19.
USF started Wednesday night's game strong, going on a 10-0 run for an early lead. A three-pointer from Taylor Fordyce extended the Cougars' advantage to 19-6 with 1:34 remaining in the first quarter. At the end of the first, the score was 21-12 in favor of Saint Francis. The Cougars shot 53.3% in the second quarter, allowing them to outscore Grace 20-11 and build a 41-23 lead by halftime.
Chloe McKnight's three-pointer extended Saint Francis's lead to 20 points with 3:55 remaining in the third quarter. The Cougars managed to hit a jump shot with 48 seconds left in the quarter, but the Lancers quickly responded with a three-pointer, bringing the score to 62-37 as they entered the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the University of Saint Francis went on a 6-1 run, pulling ahead to a 72-45 lead with just under four minutes left in the game. Reganne Pate capped off the contest with a three-pointer, securing a 24-point victory for the Cougars on Wednesday night.
As a team, the Cougars shot 50.8% (32-63) from the floor and outscored the Lancers 44-18 in the paint. McKnight led with 19 points, making five of nine three-point attempts. Ally Madden finished the night with 13 points, followed by Cali Gregory with 12 points and five assists. Cassidy Crawford had a team-high eight rebounds and two blocks.
Up next, Saint Francis women's basketball (24-3, 14-3) will conclude the regular season by hosting Spring Arbor during Senior Day in the Hutzell Athletic Center on Saturday, February 22. In their first matchup of the season, SAU beat USF 67-55.
