Lady Cougs Compete in 1st Spring 2023 Open

PERRY PARK, Ky. -- Saturday and Sunday the Lady Cougars golf team competed in their first event of the spring. The Klash in Kentucky was played at Perry Park Golf Resort and was hosted by the Southwest Golf Academy. The event consisted of 8 teams: U. of Pikeville, Mercyhurst , IU Kokomo, USF, Kentucky Wesleyan, Anderson University, Lake Superior State and Rio Grande.

With heavy rainfall leading up to the event, the course was extremely wet, and conditions were tough. Round one was windy with steady winds and a soggy golf course. Senior Amara Eckert led the cougars in round 1 with a sore of 81 and was in a Tie for 3rd overall. Other round 1 scores included: Melissa Francis 87, Bridget Marshall 87, Ava Warren 95, Abby Pequignot 99, Trinity Ruiz 118.

Round 2 was very calm and sunny with a temperature in the 60s. Amara Eckert led the ladies in round 2 and overall. Freshman Abby Pequignot had a solid round firing an 88.

Overall, the Lady Cougars competed well amidst the terrain conditions due to heavy rainfall. Head Coach Corey Potts stated, "Coming off the winter months, the first tournament is all about getting the feels and seeing tendencies in ball flight. We have a short week this week as we head down to Noblesville on Friday and Saturday to compete in Taylor University's event at Purgatory Golf Club."

The Lady Cougars will be at Taylor University - Purgatory Golf Club | Rounds 1 & 2, Friday March 31st and Saturday April 1st.
