Lady Cougs Drop “Battle of the Fort” to the Warriors

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Saint Francis women's soccer team played host to Indiana Tech Wednesday night, where they lost the "Battle of the Fort," 1-0. The deciding factor of the match came in the 40th minute of the first half from Tech's Addison Nellis.

The Lady Cougars took advantage of the Warriors in the second half of the match out shooting them 6-1 & out-possessing them. Amber Morgan tallied 3 saves for the match, only allowing one goal. USF also recorded 7 corners to Tech's 0, but were unable to connect with the back of the net. 

Courtney Tobin shifted into the back line for the Cougars creating a strategic switch, where the Cougs were able to play out of the back as a collective unit. Tobin also tallied 3 shots while Faith Lewis recorded 2 shots from distance out of the midfield. Freshman Evelyn Harlenrider played well from the flank, but was unable to connect with Nikki Laidley on the back stick. A key to the Cougar attack also included Ava Slater who shifted into a false nine for USF where her hold-up play was applauded. 

The Lady Cougars will resume play August 30th for their first away match fo the 2023 season. USF will travel to Joliet, Illinois to take on the University of St. Francis (Ill.) for a 8pm kick-off time. The last time these two sides met, ended in defeat for the Lady Cougs with a 2-1 final.
