Lady Cougars Drop to the RV Taylor Trojans

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) Women's soccer team played host to the Taylor University Trojans Saturday afternoon for their first contest of the Crossroads League for 2023. The Lady Cougars held the Trojans scoreless for 39 minutes of play in the first half, but ultimately fell to the Trojans 5-1.

USF defended tirelessly for 90-minutes against the Trojans, but should have entered into the half scoreless. A miscalled handball in the box led to the Troajsn having a 1-0 lead at halftime. From there, the Lady Cougars were unable to answer the Trojan offense, going down another 2-goals within the first 10-minutes of the second half.

A free-kick from 35-yards out led to the only Cougar goal coming from Courtney Tobin lobbing a ball into the box in the 60th-minute where Carlee Biddle finished in the scrum for a 3-1 deficit. The Lady Cougars were unable to hold onto their goal scoring momentum & allowed Taylor to score two more times before the end of regulation.

In all, Taylor had 37 shots to USF's 4, ¾ coming in the second half. Amber Morgan faced 22 shots on goal and was able to save 17 of them, only allowing 5-goals. Haley Roberson, Grace Hein, Haley Brenner, Carlee Biddle, Faith Lewis, & Amber Morgan all recorded 90-minutes.

USF is now 3-5-2 overall & starts Crossroads League play 0-1. The Lady Cougars will spring back into action Wednesday, September 27th on the road in Marion, Indiana at the IWU Soccer Complex. Indiana Wesleyan enters into the match with a 7-1-2 overall and 1-0 in CL Play. The Wildcats are currently ranked 11th in the NAIA.
