Bio

Gia Casaburo enters her 2nd season as an assistant for the Saint Francis women’s soccer program. Casaburo comes to Saint Francis with three years of college coaching experience and five years of club level experience. Casaburo was an assistant coach for the women’s soccer team at Huntington University from 2016-2019. The Foresters team doubled their win total from Casaburo’s rookie season to her final year by logging ten wins. The team also went from 9th in the league standings to 4th in just a year’s time in addition to making it to the semifinals of the conference tournament in 2018. Casaburo coached one NAIA all American player, three first team all-conference players and two honorable mention all-conference players.

In addition to coaching under Coach Nuber, Casaburo is also a club coach at the Fort Wayne Sports Club where she works with the U-17 girls’ team. Casaburo has experience coaching the U-11 and U-15 girls’ teams as well. Her resume includes coaching her U-11 team to a league title in 2015.

Casaburo graduated college honors with a BA in Human Development and Social Relations from Earlham College in 2015. She was a three-year started for the Quakers after transferring from Campbell University, an NCAA Division I program in North Carolina. She also earned her PhD and is now the Director of Student Counseling at Purdue Fort Wayne. 

At Campbell, she helped lead her team to the finals of the Big South tournament. At EC, she was a two-time First Team All-Conference and a three-time Academic First Team All-Conference honoree. Casaburo was also nominated as Conference Defensive Player of the Year her final two seasons as well as being nominated for EC Athlete of the Year as a senior

A native of Fort Wayne, Casaburo was a three-year varsity starter at Bishop Dwenger High School. Casaburo scored 44 goals and added 22 assists for Bishop Dwenger while leading the Saints to four consecutive conference championships. She was selected to the IHSAA All State Team her junior and senior years. She was also named All-Conference and All-Region three times. Casaburo helped lead her team to the state semi-finals in 2008 and the regionals finals in 2010 and 2011. As a senior Casaburo was honored as Academic All-State and was NSCAA Regional Scholar All-American. She also competed for Indiana as a member of the Olympic Development Program. She was a member of the Indiana state team for four years and a member of the Midwest regional team for two years. Casaburo was also a member of Fort Wayne Fever’s Academy. She helped lead her team to a Indiana state title in 2010.

Casaburo went on to earn her master’s degree in couple and family therapy from Indiana University Fort Wayne in 2018. She graduated with honors and served as the President of the Chi Eta Sigma Honors Counseling Society. She is currently a PhD Candidate at Michigan State University studying couple and family therapy with an anticipated graduation of 2023.
