
Lady Cougars Drop 1st Match of Labor Day Classic Invite
SIOUX CITY, Sd. – The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's volleyball team dropped their first match at the Sioux City Labor Day Classic Volleyball Invite in 3 sets to Briar Cliff (IA). USF was within 4-points or less each set, but ultimately fell to the Chargers.
The Cougars had 9 athletes play in all three sets including Hannah Sweeney, Paige Fortkamp, Alexis Gregory, Ellie Ferris, Kate McMullen, Jo Delsing, Caroline Jones, Eliza Madden, & Addison Shafer. Paige Fortkamp led the attack with 8 kills while Ellie Ferris, Caroline Jones, & Addison Shafer all had 5 kills a piece. Fortkamp & Alexis Gregory both tallied 11 digs to lead the USF back row. Ferris & Shafer both had 3 assisted blocks at the net as well to try to halt the Charger offense.
Eliza Madden & Jo Delsing both played crucial roles in the Cougar attack as Madden tallied 17 assists and Delsing recorded 10 assists. Overall, the Lady Cougs tallied 29 kills in 3 sets, 5 service aces, 48 digs, & 10 blocks.
The Lady Cougs will play again today to close out Day 1 of the Sioux City Labor Day Classic. First serve is set for 4pm Central Standard Time against Morningside. USF will look to regain some confidence moving into Match 2 & get the result.
